"Faculty will get it when there's a reason to get it." Obviously, educators have a lot going on and there's no obvious reason to jump on the social media bandwagon yet.
When will there be a reason?

When the market demands it. ;)
yes, it's appropriate for students to ask professors about new topics. Please do
PR students 'get it' when they go for interview and demonstrate broad and deep understanding of social media. My experience is that they are the ones who get the best jobs and fastest promotion. Faculties just have to follow through the marketability of thier students compared to those who don't have social media skills. Bournemouth chose not to do the research and has, in effect, destroyed its PR courses after 42 out of 50 graduates got social media roles in thier new careers this year.
Yesterday's conference was definitely evidence that UGA's faculty "get it." I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of Grady during this time of change. I feel confident that our faculty are taking the challenges as they come and educating students in turn.
